In Memory of Gilbert

Gilbert wasn’t just a familiar face at the Point — he was the kind of person who made every visit better simply by being there. If you talked with him even once, you likely walked away smiling. He had a rare gift for making people feel welcome, included, and seen.

Many of the friendships in our group can be traced back to a moment with him — a shared drink, a conversation in line, or a simple introduction that ended up creating lifelong connections. Gilbert wasn’t loud about it. He just did what came naturally to him: bringing people together.

Cedar Point was one of Gilbert’s happiest places. Whether it was rope drop mornings, afternoon drinks, or staying until the last train of the night, he showed up with genuine enthusiasm every single time.

He knew the coasters, the bartenders, the best places to sit and talk — but more than that, he knew how to make the day feel like an event. The laughter, the stories, the shared moments… they lasted long after the park closed.

If you have a favorite memory with Gilbert, chances are it includes a ride in the background, a drink in hand, and his unmistakable smile.

As a community, we honor Gilbert in ways that reflect who he was:

• Toasts in his memory during our gatherings.
   
• Remembering his stories and sharing them when we’re together at the Point.
   
• Continuing the kindness he showed by welcoming new members the way he always did.
   

He helped define the warmth and spirit of Day Drinking at the Point, and we carry that forward in his honor.

Gilbert will always be part of this group — in the friendships he sparked, the memories he shaped, and the way he made all of us feel like family.
